Anthology - Webseries

About The Project:

The concept for "Anthology" stems from a feature film concept titled, Summer Burn Down. The feature will center on the same 6 characters, and will focus on events that occur at the family-owned summer cabin where all of the characters find themselves during the last weeks of summer. That idea for the feature spawned the creation of "Anthology", which is an episodic project intended to introduce the ensemble, and to illustrate how their lives become intertwined. Originally, the webseries started out as a much more condensed venture--but as the project evolved, the series began to take on a life of its own. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, each episode will share a structure similar to a half-hour television program, as opposed to a 4-5 minute webseries. We will use this series as a launchpad for viewers and investors alike, with the intent of seeing the project to fruition through Summer Burn Down.

In place of a traditional script, "Anthology" is written in the form of a structured outline, so the majority of the dialogue is improvised, similar to television shows such as "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The League" and award-winning indie dramedies like, "Your Sister's Sister" and “Drinking Buddies”. By taking this approach, the episodes provide a rare and electric experience for the viewing audience. The spontaneity and genuine emotion of the actors' performances combine with relatable, everyday situations, to satiate the viewers' craving for authenticity. One of the major differences between "Anthology" and the films listed above, is that our cast features black, latino, white and biracial performers--our show posseses an element of diversity that mainstream media lacks--and an element that is seemingly unheard of in the "DIY" or "mumblecore" genre. We want to subvert the accepted norm. "Anthology" might not be able to erode the mountain of institutionalized racism on its own, but it can chip away at it; this show can serve as a catalyst for other filmmakers, artists and community members to do the same.

Synopsis:

"Anthology" is an 8-episode webseries that follows an ensemble cast of six main characters: John, Ricki, Ashley R., Will, Reid and Devina. In place of a traditional script, the series is built on a loosely structured outline with improvised dialogue, in order to capture the raw impulsivity, grit, and chaos of the American, millenial experience. The characters evolve over the course of the show as they struggle with themes of identity, religion, sexuality, burgeoning careers and substance abuse. The show's pilot season, which served as a "prequel" to the main storyline, was launched during the summer of 2013. Throughout the pilot season, each character's individual backstory is introduced, independent of the other characters. The current season will serve as a continuation of the plotlines and themes that were developed during the prequel, while illustrating how all of the characters' lives become inextricably intertwined.
